Holiday Road Trip Recap

Jan 31, 2025

I know that most of you are here for the peaches on our Summer Road Trip, so I really appreciate everyone who also shows up for mandarin oranges and shelled pecans on our Holiday Road Trip.

While the peaches from Georgia are indeed special, I dare say that oranges from Georgia are even more special than peaches!

Farmers have adapted similar varieties of yellow-fleshed peaches to a wide range of climates, all the way from Florida to Maine, but easy-peeling oranges like satsuma mandarins and kishu mandarins only grow in very specific terroirs like Coastal Georgia.

After a post-pandemic shortage of rental trucks in 2021 and back-to-back crop failures in 2022 and 2023, I was thrilled to get our Georgia-grown oranges on the road again this past December!

Jack Deese, from our hometown markets in Atlanta, drove a truck to nearby locations in North Carolina, and I logged over 4,000 miles in a second truck between Virginia and Maine with my childhood friend and fellow musician, Rob Douglas.

After the holidays, we look forward to the peach trees blossoming in the spring of a new year, which heralds the return of our Georgia Peach Truck on a Summer Road Trip in 2025!
