Peach Care Instructions
Published: May 7, 2025

Once you get your peaches home, we want to ensure you can enjoy them as long as you can!

Fresh peaches are picked firm-ripe in order to transport without bruising, so if you order peaches on the road trip, you may need to give them a couple days to fully ripen. We often sell both firm and ripe peaches at our Hometown Markets, and our mail order peaches typically ripen during transit so theyโ€™re ready to eat upon arrival.

Below are some peach care tips we encourage you to follow:

  • Do not refrigerate firm peaches unless you prefer to eat them firm.
  • Soften firm peaches by spreading the peaches a few inches apart on a flat cloth with stems down and tips up for about two days at room temperature. (Pro tip: put a tea towel on a baking sheet so the peaches can be moved around easily.)
  • Soft peaches are good for about three days at room temperature or about one week in the refrigerator.
  • Slice and freeze soft peaches to maintain peach flavor for months.
