Our hometown markets continue to be limited this month until more markets re-open in March and April. We’ll be at Peachtree City Market every Wednesday and Saturday; Freedom Farmers Market, Marietta Square Farmers Market, and Oakhurst Farmers Market every Saturday; and Avondale Farmers Market and Grant Park Farmers Market every Sunday with the following fruit:
- Ruby Red Grapefruit
- Dekopons
- Apples: varieties vary weekly but will likely include Pink Lady, Gold Rush, Granny Smith, and Mutsu
This month we’re juicing and freezing citrus, as their season is coming to an end. You can also freeze the zest to use later. Be sure to get to one of our markets to enjoy them in these final weeks until next season!
If you’re curious as to what a dekopon is, you may have seen them in stores under the name Sumo Citrus®. Dekopons are large seedless mandarins that originated in Japan. They are incredibly juicy and have a distinct sweet flavor. Not all dekopons are as large as the one you see above, but they are a large fruit weighing anywhere from half a pound to over a pound. The one shown above clocked in at 1 lb, 9 oz!
